Njerae (born Njeri Mwengi) is a fast-rising Kenyan neo-soul and Afro-indie singer-songwriter, often affectionately dubbed "Kenya’s Lover Girl." Born in Mombasa and now based in Nairobi, she has become a defining voice in the "Nu-Nairobi" alternative scene, known for her guitar-led melodies, vulnerable storytelling, and a signature sound that blends R&B, indie, and soulful Afro-pop.
Her career reached a massive turning point in late 2024 and 2025 when she signed with Universal Music Group (UMG) East Africa and was named as part of Apple Music’s Africa Rising Class of 2025 the first Kenyan artist to receive the honor since Nikita Kering.
