Paul Nunda, professionally known as Jua Cali, is the undisputed “King of Genge” and one of the most significant figures in the history of Kenyan music. Born and raised in California Estate in Nairobi, he co-founded Calif Records in 2000 alongside legendary producer Clemo. Together, they pioneered Genge, a genre of hip-hop that uses Sheng (Kenyan slang) to tell authentic stories of urban life, fundamentally changing the landscape of East African music.

Jua Cali is renowned for his laid-back lyrical delivery, which he calls “Ngeli ya Genge.” He made history in 2007 by becoming the first Kenyan artist to sign a major international endorsement deal (with Motorola), paving the way for the commercial success of the modern Kenyan music industry
